Amidst the violence and pride of the Duugo race, or Frost Demons as some may call them, there stands a young man with a hopeful heart. As one who was raised in a household of tyranny and oppression, he had to hide his compassion for others. Seeing the minds and machines become a slave for something as simple and brutish as war… he knew he had to get away if there was any chance of redemption.
One night, Rime stole away from nightly training to make his way to the facility used to program the androids. These androids are those that were taken from other planets to be reconstituted for the expansion of the Duugo collective. They were taken with intentions of being frontline fodder for attacks on settlements and new worlds. Rime managed to free one of the androids before it was indoctrinated for war. He thought maybe if he could just save one, they would be able to choose a life of their own and not be shackled to brutality.
The mechanical and electronic whirring and hissing, the crash of shattered glass upon the floor, and the alarm blaring as the android is removed from its chamber. Rime knew there was no going back now. He tossed his newly freed friend upon his shoulder and ran to a shuttle he had prepared days before. Anti-air defenses on the planet nearly led them to an early grave, but luck was on their side. With the adrenaline wearing off, he finally felt the wound he incurred in the chaos. As he was falling unconscious, he punched in coordinates to the first planet he saw on the display.
More alarms, “Warning! Warning!” As he rose to his feet for but a moment, he saw out the glass shielding a large sea leading up to a shore. They skipped off the water like stones cast from a child’s hand. The ship abruptly struck the ground and came to a halt. Minutes, hours, days? How long was I out, he now wondered as his new android friend reached out his hand to lift Rime off the floor. “Where did we land,” Rime asked as he clutched his side. The android replied, “We have arrived on planet Earth”. Rime thought to himself and then spoke aloud, “Well we’re finally free, its time to finally start lives of our own.” “Oh and by they way, what’s your name?” Rime asked. The Android responded, “my name will be Ryujin.” “Nice to meet you Ryujin, now lets get going.”
