Energy Event, New Features, & QoL Updates

I hope everyone has been enjoying the game!

Planet Mado dbz rpg immersive mode screenshot

I hope everyone has been enjoying the game! I’ve made quite a few new additions over the past week or so. You’ve probably noticed most of them by now, but I’ll go over all of the updates and changes.

Energy Event

For the next two weeks, energy regen is doubled! Go out and get in more fights, explore more of the map… go nuts!

New Features & QoL Updates

Immersive Mode

On your character page you’ll notice a new button called “Immersive Mode” next to your character’s name. Clicking it opens a new modal that takes up the whole screen and gives you a more focused interface to play Planet Mado.

I’m still refining it to get it where I want, but for the most part I’m very happy with it.

Self-Training Overhaul

Instead of set time blocks of training availability, you can now choose from 1/2/4/8 hour training sessions. The longer the training session, the more PL you gain per hour.

If you’re attacked while self training, the training will cancel and no PL gains will be added.

I wanted to give you all something for your character to do while you’re AFK, and this gives you more options than the old method.

As far as the gains go, the full 8 hour self train is equivalent to the old system’s one-time regular training.

Combat

For PvP fights I added an idle turn timer – the normal turn countdown is six hours, but for a sleeping player the timer is reduced to one hour.

I fixed a few bugs related to the fight window – during my testing I had it lock up on me when I clicked an action too quickly. Hopefully that’s fixed now.

Destructo Disc – This one was very buggy. It wasn’t properly removing PL when losing limbs, and the interface would incorrectly tell you the damage it did. How it works now: severing a limb lowers base PL by 20% per limb, until that limb is healed (or you die). Losing limbs also now has an effect: losing one arm means the max damage you can block is 25%, losing both arms means you can’t block at all. Losing one leg lowers dodge chance by 20%, losing both removes your option to dodge. Losing limbs also now causes a heavy bleed – 3% base PL loss per turn for five turns.

Map & Visibility

Other players/mobs/NPCs are now visible on adjacent tiles, whether you know the move Detect Powerlevel, have a scouter, or are an absorb android or not. You won’t know who or what is on that tile, but you’ll at least now be able to see if there are any entities to interact with on the tile before you use energy to move to it.

Bases – now when you place a base, a new quick actions menu button gets added that lists all of your currently placed bases and their locations. No more losing your base!

Move Learning Lockout

The move learning lockout has been overhauled. Instead of a flat six hour lockout, it now scales with how many moves you currently know. At 0 known abilities, the timer is 15 minutes. Each additional learned ability raises the timer by 15 minutes. Once you hit 10 known abilities, the timer gets increased by 30 minutes per ability.

Life skills are capped at 10 minutes and never increase in learning time.

Website Redesign, New Features, & Content

I recently made a major overhaul to the site's design, and added some functionality and content along with it.

dbz vegeta powering up

I recently made a major overhaul to the site’s design, and added some functionality and content along with it.

Website Redesign

It started off with just wanting to design the fight panel a bit more, and add better usability. I ended up really liking the aesthetics of the fight panel, and worked to make that a side-wide change. I know the original font sizes were too small, and the font colors were too faded/low contrast, but I’ve updated both and hopefully its easy to read for everyone.

Features

I added a few new things to hopefully make it easier to interact with the game. The biggest one I think is the new quick actions menu at the bottom of the screen.

Quick Actions Menu

The blue chevron icon at the bottom of the screen is how you access the menu:

Menu Access

You can click/press the icon, or on phones you can do a swipe up gesture (you can also swipe down on phones to minimize it) to access the menu.

The menu is also somewhat customizable, you can long press/click an icon and drag it to re-order them, and it should save it to your account and load in that order every time.

Draggable Windows

You can now grab the “title bar” of the windows to move them around:

It doesn’t have a ton of practical use yet, but its nice to have the option. I’ve been thinking about making it so that you have to click the X/close button on the windows to close them (no more clicking outside the window to close it), and allowing interaction between windows when multiple are open. But I wasn’t sure how useful that would be, and it might make it more annoying to close windows.

New Content

The big one here is the new gathering and crafting mechanics. It’s pretty basic for now, but I’m planning on adding more and more skills and recipes. Expect things like more foods with various buffs, and upgrading items like armor and weapons.

Easier Resource Gathering

Life Skills

For those interested, in South City and Kaiojin Town I’ve added kitchens, with an NPC who teaches Gathering I for 1 zenni. Gathering I allows you to see resource nodes on all visible tiles. The new skills for gathering, cooking, etc. (Life Skills) do not count towards your ability limit.

Quests

I’ve added NPCs to all major cities/towns that act as bulletin boards for repeatable quests, plus one big quest for high level rewards (usually at least a Sensu Bean).

Feedback

Any feedback at all is useful! If you like something, hate something, somewhere in between, or if you have an idea, I’m all ears. Just leave it in Discord or the forum.

Movement Limit Changes & Crafting!

Hi all, I've got a couple of pretty big changes/additions to PM: Crafting and a new movement energy system.

dragon ball z goku flying nimbus

Hi all, I’ve got a couple of pretty big changes/additions to PM: Crafting and a new movement energy system.

Crafting

For now there are just a hand full of more basic recipes, but I plan to add to it over time. To access your crafting menu, click on your character’s avatar and look for the “Craft” button in the Actions section:

Clicking on the Craft button will open up the crafting modal with a list of recipes you’re able to craft. If you hover over or click the “i” icons it will give you info on the recipe:

To gather materials for crafting, on some map locations you’ll see an icon to the left of your character’s avatar. To harvest the item just click the icon. Resources are limited and re-spawn over time.

Movement Energy System

The system has changed quite a bit – now you get +2 movement energy per hour, with a cap of 16 energy. Those numbers will probably get adjusted over time as I watch how you all progress with that much more movement.

As usual please give me any feedback on these changes in discord and/or the forum.

New: East City Arena

A new area has been added to East City - the Arena!

dragonball z goku and cell fighting in a tournament

A new area has been added to East City – the Arena! Anyone can fight in the arena and not worry about dying. Once the fight is over, fighters’ current powerlevel is reset back to what it was before the fight started. And similar to sparring, each participant gains 1% of their base powerlevel after the fight. Absorb androids don’t gain any powerlevel from fighting in the arena, but it’s still a good way to test your combat skills.

The arena is located at East City on the starting continent. To find East City, take the north road out of South City, then follow the road to the east.

Move Learning Lockout & Feedback

Hey all, after getting some feedback I'm lowering the move learning lockout from 18 hours to 12 hours.

dragonball z goku resting

Hey all, after getting some feedback I’m lowering the move learning lockout from 18 hours to 12 hours.

I’m also thinking of lowering the rest heal time. I got to thinking about how I’m porting the email version of the game to a browser version. With the six hour time blocks resetting movement, I felt like it made sense to lower the times for other things to match the movement reset better. What would you all think of lowering the rest heal to:

  • Base (all races other than Saiyans, half Saiyans, and absorb androids): 24 hours
  • Saiyans: 6 hours
  • Half Saiyans: 12 hours

Progression for most races is a bit slower than I’d like, and again going back to the change for Oozaru, I feel like the time outs for everything needs to be shorter so you all feel more engaged with the game.

Let me know your thoughts 馃檪

Quest Confusion

I've been keeping an eye on player to NPC conversation logs, and there seems to be a bit of confusion on how to get an NPC to offer quests and to turn in quests to NPCs.

goku on phone confused

I’ve been keeping an eye on player to NPC conversation logs, and there seems to be a bit of confusion on how to get an NPC to offer quests and to turn in quests to NPCs. If you’re having issues with quests from NPCs, try a basic statement like:

  • “Do you have any quests?”
  • “Yes I’ll accept that quest.”

To turn in quests, try basic statements like:

  • “I’m ready to turn in the quest.”
  • “I have the items and I’m ready to turn in the quest.”

If you have any issues getting quests to work with NPCs, just hop in discord and ask for some help, or you can make a post on the forum.

Filling Out The World

I just wanted to give an update to everyone waiting for the new round to start.

planet mado graphic

I just wanted to give an update to everyone waiting for the new round to start. I’m working on building out the quests, story lines, and NPC dialogue. It’s a lot of work getting it all set up (a lot of NPCs need to be added and filled out), I don’t have a good estimate on how long it will take me but it will be at least another week.

Updates

Goten Stepping Down as Ref

Goten had some issues come up and is no longer going to be able to ref next round - thanks for volunteering Goten!

goku on phone confused

Goten had some issues come up and is no longer going to be able to ref next round – thanks for volunteering Goten! Hopefully he’ll be able to ref at some point in the future.

But for now, is anyone else interested in reffing a round? If you are, message me on discord and we can discuss details.

If I don’t get any volunteers in the next week or so, my plan will be to set up an automated round with no ref, it will be purely played through the browser. All of the systems are coded and in place, but it will still take me a bit to create the maps, NPCs, and quests needed before the round is able to begin.
